4 Simple Crafts to Do With Your Children This Fall
As the air turns crisp and the leaves begin to scatter in shades of gold and crimson, fall offers the perfect backdrop for slowing down and making memories with your children. One of the simplest ways to savor the season is by gathering around the table for a cozy craft. These little projects don’t need to be complicated or time-consuming—in fact, the beauty is in their simplicity. Today I’m sharing four easy fall crafts you can do with your children that will spark creativity, celebrate the season, and leave you with keepsakes to treasure.
Acorn People Peg Doll Family
Supplies:
Acorn caps
Peg dolls
Paint brushes
Orange, dark green, dark blue, and tan acrylic paint.
Directions:
Step 1: Paint the bottom half of each peg doll a different fall color. Set it aside to dry. Step 2: Glue an acorn cap to the head of each peg doll.
Step 3: Draw eyes on the peg doll using a permanent marker.
Marble Acorn Sun Catchers
Supplies:
Acorn caps Marbles String
Hot glue Stick
Directions:
Step 1: Glue the caps of the acorns to different colored marbles.
Step 2: Glue a string to the top of each marble acorn in varying lengths.
Step 3: Tie each string with an acorn on a stick.
Step 4: Tie a string to either end of the stick and hang in a window to catch the afternoon light.
Felted Wool Acorns
Supplies:
Acorn tops
Roving wool
Felting needle
Glue
Directions:
On a nature walk, collect acorn caps.
Using small amounts of roving wool in different colors, make small balls and needle felt until they keep their shape.
Glue the balls into the acorn cups with hot glue.
(Alternatively, you can use small pre-made wool balls)
Make these in multiple colors and use them for math manipulatives or for sorting.
Pressed Flower Fairies
Supplies:
Peg doll
Acrylic
skin tones
Clear contact paper
Pressed flowers
Super glue
Directions:
Step 1: Trace the outline of butterfly wings on clear contact paper.
Step 2: Cut out the butterfly wings from the contact paper, remove the sticky side and add pressed flowers.
Step 3: Place another layer of contact paper on the flowers to protect them. Cut out the wings and trim. You can remove the sharpie marks with rubbing alcohol.
Step 4: Paint the peg dolls in various skin tone shades.
Step 5: Glue the wings to the peg doll with superglue.
